Organized by Kampala Art Auction, the Kamu-Kamu Fundraising Art Auction is the first ever major art auction to be held in Uganda. It is scheduled to take place on the 4th and 5th of August 2015 at Kampala Serena Hotel, Katonga Hall. The auction will showcase over 80 artworks from 49 Ugandan/International artists. The two-day event is the anchor of ongoing fundraising efforts to raise money in order to send a Ugandan artist to Bard College in New York. The artist will study for a Masters degree in curatorial studies or professional art management.
Viewing of the auction lots will be at Kampala Serena Hotel, Katonga Hall on 4th August 2015 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm and on 5th August 2015 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. There will then be a cocktail reception on 5th August 2015 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm followed by the auction itself starting at 7:00pm.
Uganda is in dire need of curators who will develop alongside artists, evaluate art and also support the diverse cultural heritages in Uganda. This is the foremost reason why many artists have so generously given their work to support this cause. Exactly 69% of the artworks have been donated free of charge and 31% on a commission basis to go towards the development of art in Uganda.
The Kamu-Kamu Fundraising Art Auction is targeted at Uganda’s art lovers, art collectors, citizenry in various professions, and the general public, whom we are confident will purchase the artworks up for auction. We will be contacting invited guests to the auction but members of the public are also welcome at a fee.
